October 21-24, 2004   Bloomington, Indiana
Hosted by Indiana University

Program

The International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (IS-SOTL) seeks to foster and make public the highest quality scholarship about teaching and learning in higher education. Faculty members, graduate students, researchers, instructional designers, and other educator-scholars are welcome to attend all programs of the meeting.

The concurrent sessions and interactive poster presentations are competitive. Work presented in these categories must meet international standards.

The IS-SOTL meeting is a place to learn as well as a place to inform. Attending pre-conference workshops will help you update your knowledge in a range of settings from hands-on instruction to collaborative work. If you have special expertise in some area of scholarship of teaching and learning or if you would like think-tank-style collaboration from others on pressing issues, then consider submitting a proposal for a workshop.

IS-SOTL is also a place for debate. The discussions generated at workshops, formal panels, concurrent sessions, and special interest groups will help to shape future perspectives, intersections, and directions of scholarship of teaching and learning.

The Inaugural Meeting will feature three tracks:
  1. Transforming teaching, learning, and scholarship (including issues of diversity and identity). Theory and praxis for developing and assessing a rich educational environment.
  2. Making scholarship of teaching and learning visible in the disciplines. Projects and processes for studying, articulating, and building teaching and learning in the disciplines.
  3. Campus programs and international perspectives. Lessons-learned and strategic-plans for cultivating the scholarship of teaching and learning locally, nationally, and internationally.
